About
Elsa's Kopje is carved into Mughwango Hill, above the location of George Adamson's initial camp, where he nurtured and released orphan lions long before conservation was trendy. Each cottage is built around the rocks and features a huge bedroom, open sitting area, terrace, and enormous bathroom, all with stunning views. Guests may experience unparalleled privacy in the great expanse of Elsa's Kopje, which spans 870km2, or 215,000 acres, of true African environment. The park has a healthy rhino sanctuary and is known for enormous elephant herds, hippo, lion, and wildlife; Meru National Park has greater animal species variety than any other park in East Africa. Stefano Cheli planned and built Elsa's Kopje, which was inaugurated in 1999 by Dr. Richard Leakey and Virgina McKenna, star of the 1960s film "Born Free" and founder of the "Born Free" charity. Before the inauguration of Elsa's Kopje and subsequent income from visitors, there was debate in government about de-gazetting the park and turning the well-watered lush terrain into rice crops.
